The Wooden Sky decided to play Ottawa for their first stop on tour in support of their latest release “Every Child a Daughter, Every Moon a Sun” on Black Box Music.

Having checked Facebook earlier during the day, I learned that the band would be playing a short set at The Record Shaap which is just a few blocks away from my house. I was so excited. I remembered having Gavin’s phone number saved on my computer from years back and gave the lead singer a call. He mentioned roads were terrible during the snowstorm that day, but the band was on their way from Toronto.

With 3pm nearing, I headed over to The Record Shaap with an old friend from the Soo, Steph Sears. Upon arrival at the store we learned that the band had just called to cancel. Bummer.

The cancellation was probably for the best. I had worked at the airport the night before and hadn’t slept all day due to the excitement of seeing one of my favourite bands.

After 4-5 hours of rest, I took a taxi to Ritual and arrived just in time to set up my gear and shoot photos of The Wooden Sky.

After an amazing set, and purchasing the new album on vinyl, I caught the bus to the airport just in time to start my 3am shift.

I look forward to seeing them again April 26 at The Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield, QC.
